Wireless Sensor Networks team - University of Pavia
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are an emerging technology for monitoring applications. WSNs are enabled by the considerable progress in fields like micro-electronics, computer science and communications. Those progresses allow to build very small and relatively cheap devices which can be deployed in the environment to monitor processes or events.
Our research team is involved in WSNs-related investigation since the beginning of 2008. In our research, we consider a large Wireless Sensor Network deployed on the field for specific applications, such fire or land-sliding monitoring, precision agriculture and Structural Health Monitoring. We investigate the fundamental communication and energy model, localization algorithms and data aggregation techniques.
For our research activities we use both simulation tools, such as Matlab, ns2, J-SIM or Avrora, and real world devices. We are developing our own experimental wireless sensor, where the proposed algorithms are investigated.
